Has anyone ever been to New Zealand to ski?

From what I've seen so far, it looks like a great place.

Is the skiing any good? And, Is it expensive?

I haven't actually been skiing in New Zealand myself although i know a few peoplw who have. They say that it was the flights and accomodation that had any noticable change in cost whereas ski rental and the like stayed the same.

When you are skiing in New Zealand the snow is supposed to be excellent around the skiing season and powdery for the best part of the day.

That site appears to be a handy resource...

I'm in New Zealand

Skiing starts in about April and goes on through till August/September for me. We go down in April to a place called Whakapapa, where the New Zealand National Park is located. There, they have both ski fields and boarding grounds. I would recommend going there and taking the public bus to go up and down. It's best, very well heated and all.

Its really the only place I go skiing.

Ah NZ sounds like a rad place to ski/board. Such a nice country I think with all the scenery. I might travel there one day. I also wish I lived where it snowed. Right now I have to take a plane where ever to go skiing. Depressing... anyways if you good New Zealand Ski some good things come up.

Queenstown is the place the go, ("backpacker central") really good atmosphere. You are a little bit away from skiing, but there are 30 mins bus journey to slopes. Awesome place not just for the skiing; also instruction and things like heli-skiing are cheaper than france etc... I look to see if I can find anything on the web about New Zealand...

We've been to Queenstown for skiing twice. You live in the town, and bus up to the slopes, either The Remarkables or Coronet Peak. I think there are a couple of other mountains as well, but a little further from the town. We usually picked which mountain to go to the morning itself depending on weather forecasts for the day. The skiing is great although compared to US skiing, the runs are shorter and you can't "ski back to your hotel". But much much cheaper in terms of cost! We enjoyed it when we were there, weather is great too as it rarely gets that cold.

im only 15 so this summer im going on a teen tour type program, its only about 15 kids. so i'm flying down to new zealand, we stay right on a lake over looking the remarkables mountain range. CAN (its optional, and cost more) heli ski, skydive(parent won't let me), bungy jump, and do a lot of other things for 2 weeks. we go to treble cone, corneta peak, cardona (i think thats the name), and the remarkables.

im am so pumped to go. im really dying to get out there, i ahve always wanted to go to NZ and skiing there is just a plus. it really should be awesome
