View Full Version : Skiing in France?
Michael 03-12-04, 11:34 AM Has anyone been skiing in France?
I am thinking about going there in 2 years time. What did you think of the skiing? Was the snow good? What resort would you recommend
Regards,
Michael
When I was in France the skiing was excellent.
I went to Val d'Is?re and the snow was also very good, I would highly recommend it and would definately go back there.
Michael 08-12-04, 09:18 AM Thanks Ross,
I'll check out the resort and keep it in mind if I do go to France for skiing.
HostBidder 09-12-04, 06:58 PM I've heard great reports from Val d'Is?re. I also heard that it is quite expensive.

I skied very near (I think it's near, lol) to there in a small resort called Margeriaz/Les Aillons, the weather and snow conditions were excellent when I went (February).
i went to france for about two years and the last three years i went to austria. i think france has really good ski locations and ski tracks, but i think austria has better eating places with good music etc. and also the apres ski is better.
Also the french are a bit arrogant. and they only speak french. the people in austria talk much languages and there are very much dutch ski teachers so for the dutch families with children it's great.
When i was in france i wen't to le grand bornand. it was a nice village with good ski tracks.
Michael 26-09-05, 09:05 PM It turns out France was a bit too expensive for this year :) So I decided to go to Andorra instead.
I never been to andorra or the pyrenees i always went to the alps.
Czech is also very cheap. :P espacially the beer ;)
I go skiing in France often. There are loads of great resorts, but I'm more a fan of the smaller, friendlier ones (there's a pleasant one called Areches, not for from Albertville). ;)
Michael 08-01-06, 07:01 PM Opie - Would Areches be aimed at beginner or more advanced skiiers?
Probably beginner to intermediate. It's not a large place, but it's friendly and relaxed. There's also a larger ski station a couple of kilometers away which have some really good slopes.
gotshoes 09-01-06, 03:45 PM I would love to go to France and do some skiing, some great mountains and alpine resorts there.
Some friends I know from school had a 2 weeks trip there last year and they said that it was amazing.
Michael 09-01-06, 04:32 PM Yea there are some nice ski resorts out there, explains how they can charge so much for the lift passes ;)
How much do they charge in general for an afternoon ski lift pass over in the States? I've only ever been skiiing in Europe - would be interesting to compare...

There are many nice ski resorts in France. I’ve been to Chamonix and to Tignes. I really like both of them. Chamonix is more expensive but the night life is vibrant there. The ski pistes near Tignes are huge.
Check ski direct (http://www.ski-accommodation-finder.co.uk/) for more information on ski resorts, ski accommodation and skiing in Europe.
