Greetings everyone and happy skiing to all. I have been skiing for over 45 years and love the sport!!!!

It is truly a blessed moment when one is at the top of a mountain, just after the sun has come up, and you have a sense of total freedom and peace. It is a wonderful feeling...................

Wow, 45 years - congratulations

Welcome to the site. Out of interest, what's the best thing to have happened to skiing over the last 45 years? Is it more or less 'fun' than it use to be, have you noticed the slopes getting busier, etc!!

Thank you gski, yarddog, and of course, snobeach for the welcome:)

Is skiing more or less fun.....hummmm.....

Well gski, It's more fun, mostly for two reasons which both are design based.

First the advances in ski technology have been incredible, especially over the last 10 years. The advent of free ride, carvers, twin tips, and the development of binding systems that actually work have made skiing a real pleasure.Quite a change going from 210 cm GS boards to 170's. I find I can be on the hill and not be nearly as tired at the end of the day as I was in years previous. The new stuff is just so forgiving and easy to carve. Don't have really have to load the ski anymore, just roll them over and hang on. Much easier on the knees.

Secondly, technology in the design of lift systems has been a welcome one.The new high speed lifts move way more people per hour, compared to the old pomas and rickity old chairs of days gone by. I believe I actually get more vertical in a day than I used to.

To answer the question about crowds, were we live it can be extremely busy on weekends, Christmas and Easter.
If it's busy, I just ski a line near the trees. Not many people ski on the edges of the run and the snows usually better.

During the week, you can ski or board and sometimes feel like you are the only on on the hill. Not busy at all.
