Snowboarding seems a lot cooler than skiing, I must give it a try. Right now, I'm into skiing and mastering that before moving on to other sports, e.g. snowboarding.

I'm sure it is a difficult decision for those who have done both. Personally I have never tried snowboarding, I am sure I will at some stage .. just not yet.

I prefer skiiing, more control in my opinion. Makes me feel safer and less scared to ride down the hills.

I like them both, they both have compeltely different styles, snowboarding can be more relaxed and "cool" where as skiing is more exploring type, atleast thats the way I see it.

I agree snowboarding seems more like sliding down the slopes on your rear end most of the time, hows that fun? In the end ( snowboarding = hard to learn but easy to master ) ( skiing = easy to learn hard to master ) i personally like skiing

Snowboarding seems more "free" and is a natural progression if you feel you can ski well and want to try something new!

Free heel skiing of course ! You can go everywhere on skies. Using Nordick mountain touring ore telemark skies you can walk up mountains and ski down again. Get fantastic hiking trips on snow. In Norway everyone manage this teknics.

I've been skiing for 6 years now and unfortunatly I can only afford to go once a year, so each year i've been going i've always said that i'd try snow bording but as you get better and better each day your on skis I dont really want to spend any time trying to learn something new when I could be spending that time improving my skiing. But I have been saying for a couple of years now that if I had the pennys then i'd spend a week bording and a week skiing. Ovey not one week after the other, i've got legs like a match stick! haha!

I'm all for skiing. Snowboarding doesn't do it for me. It just looks cooler, but it's not (no offense though :) )

SKIING

In my life, from 1944 to 2010, I have engaged in two kinds of skiing: snow and water. Both activities took place during my years of high school from 1958 to 1962. I did some water-skiing at a Bahá'í summer camp in northern Ontario in 1961/2. I also water-skied on other occasions in those high school years but, after the passage of nearly fifty years, I can’t recall when or where.

The fine details of my snow-skiing are also lost to my memory, although I do recall having an injury skiing on show and deciding not to ever ski again. I also recall owning an old pair of skis and having trouble putting my feet into the stirrups. I recall using my rubber boots, not a very stable piece of footwear; I recall skiing near the town where I grew up. I skied perhaps a dozen times in those five years. Tabogganing and sleigh-riding, of course, distant cousins of snow-skiing, were part of my life from the late 1940s to the late 1950s, but I shall not comment on those activities here.

Water-skiing took place in the summer months when school was out: June to September; snow-skiing from December to March. But all this skiing, on water and snow, was far out on the periphery of the sporting life of my teen-age years, a sporting life concentrating on: baseball, hockey and football in organized leagues and informally on the street and in various kids of fields. After half a century it all seems like a dream.-Ron Price, “My Pre-Pioneering Days,” Pioneering Over Four Epochs, 1 March 2010.(250 words)

SKIING. I snowboarded for years and after one year of skiing I'm attempting d-spins, doing backflips, misties, and frontflips, and getting close on flat 5. On a snowboard i was barely doing 360's. skiing is a bit easier and more fun. much betta. it's also got a better crowd of people in my opinion. also you dont get stuck on cat-tracks and can ski right off the lift and down the hill.

I was lucky enough to learn both. There both so much fun! I'm sure you'll have fun with whatever you choose to do!

Cheers Mate!

I've snowboarded on and off for about 10 years, and I just tried skiing for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I'm obviously more comfortable on a snowboard, but I wish I skied from the beginning because skiers are much more advantaged at accessing amazing terrain, and just being able to go right off of the chair is a benefit too in my opinion.

I've tried both. I like skiing better maybe because I started skiing when I was 10, and eversince I've been in love with the sport :)

Telemark! And alpine skiing, of course. But really, as long as you're having fun in the snow and respecting everyone else's fun on the mountain, that's what counts.

The "skiing is way cooler" thing is not really true anymore with the ski jumps, bumps. twintips, etc. Some of the coolest guys I know are totally cool ripping between trees like no boarders can.
I do both. Mostly skiing because I'm an expert there and only a solid intermediate on the board. But you can't beat boarding in the gear & comfort departments. I use click-ins so the sometimes long walks from the car or the condo with a few pound board in comfy boots are not a torture like in the ski gear. Also, I picked up boarding way, way faster than skiing. That surprised me 'casue you'd think having your feet bound would be trouble. Perhaps having a private lesson with a good instructor helped. The guy had me join hill and toe turns within an hour! I've seen my son's skateboarder friends snowboard very well and do simple tricks after a few hours on the board!
But overall - skiing is number one for me. For a newbe, I would definitely suggest snowboarding, though. Sorry skiers :(

Skiing is a good start up. Both are almost the same but snowboarding is more extreme. They be both thrilling depending on the place but I find snowboarding more intense.

I have been a skier my whole life and only tried snowboarding once and I cann't really see any reason to try snowboarding again. But as a side note I personally feel that snowboarding has been the best thing to happen to skiing since metal edges. Snowboarding changed the sport for the better, it changed the way we ski, it changed the shape of skis, it changed how we design resorts, and most of all it introduced millions of new people to the sport and helped make skiing cool again...

Well, both these sports are great. It just depend upon which of them do you feel extreme and hype. I tried both but I hunger for ski than snowboard. Maybe it's because of the more balance I get from using ski than board.

Rollerblading=skiing skateboarding=snowboarding.

I don't want to sound obvious but I wonder if it would be easy for a skier to learn snowboarding and vice versa. My neigbor once told me that he learned skateboarding easily because he was fond of rollerblading before.... I don't if it's the same with skiing and snowboarding.

Love to ski but enjoy snowboarding in the spring when its warm and I know I'm gonna be on the ground most of the time. My 13 year old son alpine races at Okemo. When his race season is over I talk him into snowboarding with me. He too loves skiing but only tolerates snowboarding.
