Anyone recommend a resort for groups?

Reasonable transfer time
Lively
Good slopes for beginners
Some non skiers

I am looking at France L aTania. Allthough I think this is a bit on the quieter side. What's Avoriaz like? I know it's got a shorter transfer time.

When you say lively are you referring to the Apres Ski? ;)

Why yes Apres Ski :)
Arinsal is the only resort I've had personal experience skiing in and the nightlife was good but not a major amount to keep you going. By the end of the week it was a matter of going around the same pubs etc. again and again!

Sugarloaf Maine is a great place to park the car and not get back into it for a week.

La Tania is definitely a family-focussed resort ie preschoolers.

Hi Snow Angel,

Where did you choose in the end? Based on your criteria, you would have been better off going to Austria, IMHO after skiing in more than 25 resorts across Europe.

If you want good après ski, forget France and head for Austria. French resorts are more family-orientated and the après ski comes nowhere near what you get in the Austrian resorts. Of course, French resorts tend to be higher so you have more guarantee of snow. Depends what you’re after. I would always go to Austria if the snow was good. There’s also more to do for non-skiers in Austria because the resorts are “real” villages and not the manufactured ones that you get in France.

Having said all that, I’m going to La Tania in Jan 2011 but my requirements are different to yours. I want good off-piste and plenty of advanced skiing. I’m not that interested in the après ski as I tend to have a beer after skiing, have a shower, eat (in the catered chalet) and then crash out ready for the next day. I might let my hair down on the last night because there’s no skiing the next day. But I got the après ski out of system years ago.

Whatever you chose, you’ll enjoy it.
