View Full Version : Staying in shape - best body shape for skiing? Dizaster 17-04-06, 06:04 AM Whats the best type of body build you could have for skiiing? and any tips on keeping that shape? Khaotic 17-04-06, 07:06 AM I'd say just keep healthy, slim waist, somewhat muscular so turns and stuff are easier, just eat vegetables and fruits, and have a nice daily exercise, basic stuff basically. Abyss 19-04-06, 09:13 PM What Khaotic said, just stay in a good shape, try to have some muscles, and eat healthly, iron and protein is also good. Michael 19-04-06, 11:10 PM You'd have to be healthy of course and I think strong leg muscles wouldn't go a miss! sparky 22-04-06, 05:18 PM I like to use those optical gliders at the gym. Gives you strong leg muscles and powerful hips - perfect for skiing :) TomC 13-05-06, 11:01 AM Whats the best type of body build you could have for skiiing? and any tips on keeping that shape? Regular exercise is always good to keep you generally fit! Also having strong enough leg muscles would be a bonus and would stop you getting tired legs when skiing. ;) ebittner 14-05-06, 07:11 AM Well if you plan on going fast and cutting and edge you have to get your uper boding in strengh you may want to curl and lift also try to get your buttox in shap for sking too. canadianskier 08-12-06, 12:12 AM I bike all summer and try to stay limber, stretching and keep the lungs working. Solid core muscles help alot too. A healthy lifestyle will do it! mortabunt 23-09-08, 07:18 PM Strong cores, arms, legs, and neck. Carrying skis is hard, and you need to be able to stay up at all time while skiing. If you do not use polls, you should try using your arms to brace your legs. You need a strong neck to look ahead, and to keep your sight steady on bumps. Jackie 25-09-08, 01:23 PM I don't know if any particular body style is preferred, but some athletic ability and/or physical fitness is desirable. The combo of healthy eating, exercise, and stretching is VERY important. I agree with the comments from the cyclist (I am also a cyclist and hiker) keeps those legs nice and strong in the off-season. If you don't have access to a gym, there are exercises you can do at home for free. The best? Get your back against a wall a center your legs beneath your shoulders. Now lower yourself into a squat and hold, then press yourself back up. Do this as many times as you can. Next? Lunges. Those two exercises alone, combined with a good stretching regimen will help you tremendously. Sit ups won't hurt either as they will strengthen your "core" muscles. If you have difficulty due to a bad neck or back, try the modified version by raising those shoulders off the floor while concentrating on squeezing those abs. You can even add a slight twist for obliques. wbsr 26-09-08, 12:06 AM Strong legs and core are essential for a long day on the slopes. Jackie pointed out the back to the wall and squat exercise, thats a really good one for skiing. mortabunt 26-09-08, 12:11 AM High discepline is essential. |
