Any suggestions for a beginner on what type of stuff to get and a typical price?

Well I'm a beginner myself, but I'd just start off getting normal pair of cheap skiis, put on some thick and warm clothes and try balancing on them in the snow, then push yourself alittle, then eventually down hills.

Dizaster - you should read some of the ski articles here at Talk Ski http://www.talkski.com/ski-articles/

They seem really usefull to a beginner like yourself.

You could also consider just renting the equipment such as skis and boots until you get a bit more advanced.

IM going on my first proper skiing holiday soon :) I will be hiring all my gear when I get there. I think this is the best way to do it as I can try several different things out before buying anything :)

For you first few times you should rent but rent different kinds so you can see what you like best and then you can make a choice to spen the money because it is expensive.
