Does anyone use any kind of expensive socks when they are skiing? I just use wooly socks myself and have seen all kinds of other socks that are suppost to offer ankle support etc, what do you think?

I just use wool socks myself. I bought my son some "skiing socks", but I cant remember what it is about them that makes them so fantastic (and expensive). They seem to be thicker than normal and reinforced (double layer?) on the bottom.

When I bought them the store had a lot of different kinds and prices, so I just got one that was priced in the mid range. I do know that my son has not complained of his feet being cold since we got his new socks.

I was going to buy some for myself, but the larger sizes were extremely expensive and I decided that I didn't really need them.

If you get some of them, I would like to hear about how they perform.

I'll be sure to let you know, as I will probably be buying some new skiing gear within the next few weeks for the trip in Feb!

I use socks specific to skiing, they are Lorpen merino wool. They are fairly thin and have lycra in them. The front of the sock on the shin is different material that stands up better to the constant friction on the tongue of the boots. I love them, thin and warm. Think they go for about $30 can.
