View Full Version : Skiing Exercises
WLWsite 07-03-05, 11:10 PM I came across this message board and thought that it would be a wonderful idea to add some information about working out ski specific muscles to my website. I know that skiing is mostly leg muscles but I want to make sure with the pros. What would you say the most important areas of the body are in order to stay in shape for skiing?
Michael 17-03-05, 09:40 PM Yes, It is mainly the leg muscles you should be concerned about. But you should really stretch as many muscles as possible as you never know what you could land on if you fall.

I never realize that I am working my legs hard until the next day. I think the stretching tips will help. Thanks.
Michael 30-08-05, 11:16 PM It is also good to stretch in preparation for the skiing season. It could loosen up that leg and prevent it breaking in a fall :D
I always get into some sort of stretching routine before I go skiing! It pays off, if I have one of those big falls I am not as fragile :D
NumBa1Stunna516 02-09-05, 09:24 AM I usually do some routine ones before I go out, http://www.ovphysio.com/stretchg/skiing/skiing.htm site is great. Its got it all in a list with how to do it.

Thanks, ive always had problems with the effects of snowboarding afterwards.... i always find my muscles tensed, and i never have a stretch routine because im so anxious to get on the mountain.... but this might help me take the time.
I am having little trouble this days with strecthes so i think i have to check with physiotherapist before i do anything mentioned above.
Still thanks a lot for that link very informative.

I like to stretch my chest muscles and back muscles as well. I find that often they ache after a good ski, aside from the leg muscles.
gotshoes 09-01-06, 09:51 AM Leg muscles and back muscles.. .
also balance traning and a very important thing is gymnasticks, trampet etc...
Specially if you do big jumps/airs etc.
makemedie 09-01-06, 07:38 PM Wow, I didnt know you were meant to do some exercises before skiing. Might explain why I dont do very well :D

Realisticly you should stretch before doing any sport, it lessens the chance of you hurting yourself because it warms the muscles up.
blank260 10-01-06, 08:43 PM Ski workouts? Heard of them but never really read anything about them. Are they really helpful at all? I've never done them and im doing just find with my skiing.
Dizaster 17-04-06, 06:29 AM I think it would be an excellent workout, twisting your body, using your legs, arms, pretty good.
Khaotic 17-04-06, 07:11 AM I personally think its pretty good, once you get used to riding down slopes pretty regularly, you could make it a nice winter routine.
I suppose its good, but I personally wouldn't like it because I tend to get a cold throat and breathing starts hurting while I'm outside in the cold, probably because I'm not dressed warm enough, but still, I don't like working out with layers and layers of clothes on.

SNOtrainer2 03-10-06, 07:33 PM Hi,
Great discussion here on ski training. I am new to this site but I sure like what I see.
Training skiers for the optimal snow performance is pretty close to my heart. I have exercise routines and ski training ideas available on my website for free if anyone is interested.
I like to train hard to be able to ski hard as well. Every ski trip or vacation is an opportunity to get in shape and I like to enjoy my trips to the fullest.
Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think! http://www.trainforskivacation.com
