This is a rather interesting story:

My best friend and I were skiing in Switzerland when he decided he would go off a ramp. Turns out, the entire ramp was iced up, meaning he accelerated at a very fast rate and ended up shooting too far off this ramp, landing into some trees on the side of the way. So I ski on over, only to find him lying there as if he is passed out. I ask him if he is ok, and he tells me he is. So I help him up, and we both see that his leg is bending in completely the wrong position (quite disgusting if you ask me), and he toppled over again. This was when I knew it was time to get help and luckily some random person stopped by and asked if we needed any. Thinking it best to stay with my best friend for support, I told the nice guy to go get some help, to which he did. We were taken to a hospital (I was thankfully allowed to ride in the back) where my best friend had 2 metal plates grafted onto his bones - it was a clean break, but a large one.

Ouch! Sounds nasty! Don't let it put you off skiing, accidents happen!

Believe me, it has somewhat put me off.

I could see his leg bending in 2 places where it wasn't supposed to. I very nearly puked... and in the snow, vomit is gross (yes, I have..)

We were being a bit stupid, but I get carried away with speed and adrenaline. It's only because I saw that the ramp was iced up after he hit it, that I did not and went around.

He saved my leg :P

Yes, the break sounds quite disgusting, a friend of mine skiied right into a tree once. It wasn't a pretty sight :blink:

What happened to him?

That story has put me off skiing ever so slightly :P

Frankly, when I see something happen, and it looks like it hurts, it throws me right off.

I was thrown right off skating (inline) when going off a ramp and landing awkwardly, doslocation my finger and breaking my thumb.

God.. that wasn't even that painful. Just scary.

That's a pretty nasty story.:confused: But something similar happend to my brother when we wen't skiing. He got out of control on a ramp and ended up breaking his leg I think but it wasn't as extreme as your friends case.:eek:

Ouch sounds nasty, but he's lucky. He could have done alot more damage.

Wow, that's pretty gross 0.o But I'm glad he's ok. Like the others stated, it could have gone much worse.

Yeah, if you ever watch home videos of skiing you'll see a load of nasty accidents. Just be careful and you should be okay.

A friend of mine also broke his leg a while back when he was learning to ski. Needless to say he's stayed away from the slopes. It'll take him a while to ease him back in...

Knowing some begineers they either fell on it wrong, ran into something, or where going really fast and hit something and fell on it wrong. :P
