well different lengths are good for dif things like for racing you want a long ski park and pipe a shorter ski and then for all around you want a ski in the middle of that

whats twin tips?

twin tips are skis that the tip and back are both rounded up the same hight so you can ski switch (backwards) without having to worry about the back of your skis digging in.

First thing I would suggest is , if you have the time, visit your local ski shop where you live and tell them your ability level and they will give you some advice on what type of skis to rent (or buy) and the length.
If you are 5'7" and only 118, you may be better off with a shorter ski for starters, like a 140 or 150 cm ski.

You didn't tell us your age or sex, but there are skis targeted for women and juniors.

Also, do you take lessons when you go? the instructor will also be able to recommend skis and size when he or she observes where you are at in terms of skill level.

oh i forgot to say my age and sex
i am a 21 male
the last time i went i took 150s but they usally give me 140s
i started off skiing with lessons but didnt ask at that time about skiis i just wanted to ski but now i dont take an instructor

so starter start at 140s and 150s? but i wouldnt concider myself a beginner

Stick with the shorter skis--they will be much easier to handle and learn on. Especially at your weight.

Keep taking lessons--you will be surprised how faster you will progress.

so short skiis will be 140 - 150 i assume

and when would you say that im trying to become beter to be able to try longer skiis?

and how much does my weight factor in, in what skiis i should use

Weight is a factor in the ability to turn a ski. At your weight a short ski will be easier to turn and control. Longer skis will be more difficult at your skill level to turn and control. Just trust me on this.

When will you be ready for longer skis?--depends on how quickly you are comfortable in controlling your speed and do turns and if you really feel you need them to ski better. The shaped skis on the market now can be skied at shorter lengths without loss of performance because of the way they are constructed. You may find that even after lessons and becoming a skilled skier that you may not want skis much longer than 150's.

wow i never thought of it the way you put it down when i went last time i took longer skiis trying to become fully intermediate skiier i and i think that i still need short skiis a little longer

i never took a longer ski than 150 my turns is not exactly perfect thats why i fall when its too crowded or a sudden opstacle of my innabillity to make the exact turn and smooth

none really like skiing in too crowded places.. you probably take long turns now, but eventualy you will learn to take shorter turns and will be able to enjoy crowded slopes more eventough skiing with a few buddies and none else in slope is always best :D

im your size and i couldnt imagine using less than 150's
im getting 160's next season for my park skis

sold1erx
20-02-08, 10:18 PM
i see the people do the short turns i try to copy it but im not good at it i just need someone to show it to me not just see it by someone on the slopes

shorter skiis are for learning purpose only
is 160s good enough for our size for the park?

Line101

well if you are looking for skis to last you a long time then get the 160s but if you want something for just this season or until you get good go shorter andthen when you are confident go to the 160s

i guess line101

ill have to consider buying skiis after i have established my level and not have to buy skiis every year when i go up a level in skiing

so ill go with shorter ones to get confident and then with the long ones i guess

i hope the ski sreas rent twin tips to try

Well, i too wanted to try twin tip skis. BUT, as i found out that they do not rent twin tip skis :'( .This is beacuse you tend to do tricks on them and rails and stuff like that (not that you have to) the chance you break them or ruin the edging on them is alot higher. So they do not rent them. I have only been offered them once in a local store and they were junior ones that someone traded in. Good luck but i dont recommend getting your hopes up too, too high about trying them.

i never tried asking for twin tip skis to rent i see we are both from the north east im in new york so we got to get all bunch of people to ask everytime they go skiing to ask if they rent twin tip skis so we would have a list of all places that rent twin tip (if we can find) wouldnt be a bad idea i really want to try them before buying them
