Ski Spats??

Do any of you remember the polymer Ski Spats that were made in the mid-1980s? Are there any companies that make a product similar? We're going skiing after Christmas, and I would like to find some for my husband.

Are you referring to the wierd tubes of "fat" that strapped to your feet under your boot to prevent shin bang? If so wouldn't know where to start other than google! Or, do you mean boot gloves which go over your boots in very cold weather to insulate your feet?
P.s Welcome newbie.

Yes! The weird tubes! I have an old pair, and they are so fabulous. Is there any new thing that is comparable? I've not been skiing in over 10 years, and he's never been. I just know the pain afterward when I've not used them!!

I really don't have a clue where you would find them, I have heard of but never seen them. However boots have changed since the 80's and provided you spend some time making sure they fit properly (i.e really snugly like a firm handshake rather than sloppily) you should be fine. If your buying boots then visit a fitter not a seller. If your renting be prepared to spend a while trying boots on. One pair of ski socks is best, don't be rushed, if you have narrow feet TELL the shop, likewise if you have very wide feet. My sister is very skinny footed and gets on well with nordica boots, I have the opposite and bought head boots. IMHO if ski spats fit inside your boots then you have been sold/rented boots too big. If your foot is not gripped firmly then you risk injury to your ankles, shin bang etc and you have less control of your skis as your wasting movement within your boot before boots transmit that motion to your skis. Good luck, have a great holiday x
