Best resorts to ski in the USA?

I am planning a trip to go skiing in the US... I was wondering what comments others had as to the BEST ski places to visit. I've heard a bit about several, but would love to get a candid review from the places other members have been.

My 2 cents:

- Vermont - Not my favorite place, had a horribly frigid experience and the slope seemed quite icy. Of course, this could just have been a bad time that I went.

- Colorado - Great skiing. Found Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) to be a wonderful experience and not as crowded as some others. Seemed to have a good mix of runs for different skill levels and several slopes with lots of moguls if you enjoy them. A nice smaller town to vacation in.

- Oregon - Mt. Bachelor was simply outstanding. Difficult runs were not as difficult as those in Colorado in general, and overall fewer moguls. Great views from up top the mountain and a nice town to vacation in.

So, I'd love to hear what others have to say... thanks!

I used to live in Colorado and it was the best place to go skiing. Well actually it was the only place I've really ever been skiing too.

Deer Valley, Utah.

Best skiing that Ive ever had. Still think its one of the best out there.

Its so fun and the slopes are beautiful, 'cept when it snows alot and they dont groom it..

But... FRESH POWDER.. mm.

I can't agree more, there's nothing better than fresh powder.

Hehe yeah, the greatest thing in the world is getting their 15 minutes before the lifts start and being the first person up the mountain. Your pick of any slope and its basically going down by yourself the whole way down.

I had a friend that goes to ski in colorado every year for his birthday. He says that the skiiing there is like nothing on the east coast. It seems you think the same.

Deer Valley, Utah is what i have heard of as the best place to go skiing. Somewhere in South Dakota though is really cheap...perhaps the cheapest place

Family Skiing Website

The place in South Dakota, Terry Peak, is probably cheap but not very big and hard to get to.

Vail, Steamboat, Big Sky, Jackson, and Deer Valley would be at the top of my list.

Best ratings for family skiing are here:
