Buckling the Boot Too Tight ??
I have an issue with bruising on my calf after skiing last weekend. When I first went out, I tightened my boots "just snug" on my calves. After a few runs, I noticed that my right heel started to lift up in my boots. So, I tightened the upper buckles a notch or two. I took two more runs and fell hard enough to lose both skis. Later that night, my right calf was bruised and very sensitive to touch. I'm now black and blue !! Am I tightening the upper buckles too much ?? Should I only tighten the buckle nearest the ankle to keep my heel in place? Could the fall on the last run be to blame??

It's hard to say how tight your boots should be, i've always been told not to make them too tight - it should be comfortable. I always like to leave it so there is a little movement in my heel. I tend to adjust them a lot throughout the day however.

Thanks, Michael. I spoke to a friend who has been skiing a long time and he said that it may not be the boots at all. His thoughts - I'm leaning back too much and the fall I took could have increased the pressure on my calf due to ramping up the boots too tight, thereby causing the tenderness and bruising. I had a great first season of skiing regardless !!

I'm glad your problem has been answered before it led to something worse. A healthy insight from seasoned skiers is always a priceless helping hand to have. :)
