Is it ever a good idea to blindfold your students? My 15 year old son who has skiied for 9 years in Colorado was blindfolded yesterday during a lesson by a resort instructor. He was guided by another 14/15 year old skiier. It didn't end well - stitches, slight concussion, possible need for plastic surgery in the near future. What are your thoughts? Am I behind in the times as far as instruction goes?

Blindfolding sounds crazy to me!
How could you possibly expect someone to avoid a ski, pole or a person without your vision! If anything the instructor should have been guiding, but it sounds like he just shouldnt have been instructing.

I talked with the head of ski school who said that the instructor had tried this with adults before and thought this group of kids was accomplished enough to learn "sensation" skiing. Well, instead of "feeling the snow" my kid felt a tree. What a sensation! Fortunately he's gonna be okay but I'm still kinda freaked out about it. I didn't think I was out of line in my thinking but wanted to check with some other skiers. Thanks for your replies.
