First Ski Experience

Just for fun...where was everyone's first skiiing experience. I hit the slopes for the first time when I was 4 at Terry Peak in the Black Hills....any one else ever been there? Or where did you go?

I was 12. At a tiny ski area in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia called Massanutten. 38 years later my parents have retired there and I ski there most weekends.

I was about 8 or 9 years old, and I had a pair of small wooden skis. Found a slope quickly (I was at my grandparents at the countryside) and whooosh!...went 12 meters before falling for the first time, just like the Wright brothers and their firs flight.

I was 2 years old at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire. Remember it like it was yesterday. Pops tossed me in a racer chaser (harness with straps to steer me/hold me up) brought me to the top of Little sister and dragged me down the mountain. Been in love with skiing ever since.

I went to Angel Fire, New Mexico. I was about 3ish. I had sooo much fun!! I took ski lessons and passed everything except for safety because I kept going in and out the trees hahah That's the best part.

The very, very first time I must have been 4 or just turned 5 (it was before I started school) & dad made skis for my cousin, sister & me.

But I would have started to learn properly about 9 or 10 ('72 ~'73) and free style was known as Hot-Doggin!
The place would have been Preshier Valley (Australia), there was only 1 or 2 chairs, a lot of double T-bars, all powered by very loud disel engines, which were terrifying for a child - and the crowds it would take 20mins to get on the bleeding lift!
Wow, how things have changed, far far better.

I skied for the first time last month, (been snowboarding for about 10 years) at Northstar at Tahoe. I slowly picked up the rhythm of linking my turns down the slope, but I was still pretty sloppy and kept overlapping the tips... and I think my ankles are extremely weak because I couldn't keep the skis parallel/straight for very long; my feet kept shimmying haha.

4 years old at Sweatt Hill in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Became a great sledding hill for families after the lifts closed for good.
