Has anyone attempted to do a flip?
Has anyone ever attempted any type of flips on skiis? Have any tips for people wanting to try?

Hmm that would be pretty scary to be honest, I'd only imagine complete pros to try flips on skiis.

Would be quite hard to land with both skiis I'd think, quite risky too if you mess up.

No, Im far too inexperienced to try anything like that.
I have a friend who can do all sorts of trcks on a snowboard though. Some of the things he does is crazy and I wouldnt even dream of even attempting them! |

I've got my fronts down pack and working on my backs.
Try flips in the pool first. Then off a diving board. Once you have the motion down that is the first step. Then you need to learn how to ski. Then you need to learn how to get some air. You should have other tricks down before a flip...it is a pretty advanced trick. Honestly, don't think about it until you are sending 20 foot cliff or larger and can throw 360s with ease. I didn't learn how to flip until this season, after sending some big cliffs and landing some 7s and 900s. If you can do it on the ground with your own two feet you can do it on skis with the help of a ramp. Once you get to the point you are ready to try a flip, NEVER half ass. commit or do not attempt, backing out half way and landing on your neck is how people get seriously injured.

haha I like the medical insurance idea.
First, you want to learn how to still air, this is simply leaving the ground. Start small and work your way up. After you feel you have the balance of leaving the ground down, you begin tucking in air. From the tuck position you should start on the grabs....iron cross, mute, japan, safety, etc. After you have mastered grabs go to spins, 180, 360, etc... Then flips. Then flips with swins and grabs intertwined...like a flare cross, or rodeo mute, etc.. once you have that you will be a sponsored pro lol. These are VERY BASIC steps. Your age, atheletic ability, previous expierience and mental amount of craziness will determine how quickly you pick up the tricks and how far you go. You may spend 2 entire seasons just getting the feeling of balance in the air before you can evern start tucking.

JustinSki223.... interesting you are doing fronts before backs. Back flips are alot easier than fronts, this is for a few reasons...
i) back flips you can spot you landing ii) your natural movement when you pop off a jump is a backwards rotation. So dont try a front flip before a back flip.... Few things to do before you try i) do it on a trampeline ii) technique.... pop big time, look over your head and lean back at the same time, tuck you knees to your chest, as you start to go over look for your landing, to slow the rotation un-tuck your knees and land with soft knees. To make it easier try it on blades ( I hate them as well but is could for pratice) or in some resorts are big air events... here they have massive air pads you land in to practise.. If you go for it... do it on a red jump which kicks, and go with commitment. Haha I know it is really weird. I used to do front flips as a child on the soccer field. Naturally, I learned them first on skis.
Many of my buddies can do backs and cannot do fronts, I am just the opposite. I have landed a few backs but I do not feel comfortable throwing them just anywhere off anything like I do fronts yet. Thanks for tips!

And I forgot to add...when you are first trying a flip try what feels more comfortable to you. I could have never done a backflip first.
After doing the frontflip it gave me confidence to commit to a backflip. Even though fronts are harder in terms of direction and amount of spin, they may be easier for you to achieve. In turn, if you are more comfortable backflipping, do that first.

i have not attempted a flip yet but it is getting close to me having to learn it. i ski in alot of pipe and freestyle skiing comps and people are progressivly getting bigger air and throwing bigger tricks.
