Just started skiing...initial thoughts

Been skiing twice, going for my 3rd time this weekend. I can see now why this can be so fun. 1st time out I took a lesson and spent the rest of the day trying not to fall down much. Everything was tight, boots, helmet, muscles, was a little intimidated with the speed but kept at it. By the end of the day I was just starting to "get it." 2nd time out was very different. Put together a string of parallel turns on the bunny hill and headed for the blues. Spent the rest of the day relaxed, and having a blast with a smile. So much so it made me wonder why I waited so long to do this. I'm no spring chicken (45) so I wasted a lot of years I could have been skiing.

So what do I have to look forward too? I have a trip planned in March out West and planned to take a few days break from snowmobling to hit the nearby slopes. Apparently, they have something called powder out there? How much different will it be from what I've seen so far with granulated, mostly made-made snow and short runs?

Also, skiers like to talk. Not once so far have I ridden up a lift and not had a great chat on the way. People have great stories and advice to share. One of the best places to hang out is at the end of the lift watching others try to get off without falling. That and the lodge where taking a break with some foods and suds are the menu. Finally, is it just me or do snowboarders fall a lot more than skiers.

Why did I wait so long to try this...

Glad to hear you're enjoying it so much Pierre. It just gets better the more you ski.

Where have you been skiing and where are you planning to go out west? You'll love the real snow!
