Buying first ski/boots ever!

Hey all,

So I'm new here but definitely not new to the sport. I've been skiing since I was pretty young and I've got at least 6-7 years of skiing under my belt. With that said, I can ski on the black diamonds and double blacks with little problems if any. I'm not sure what skill levels this puts me at. The mountains I ski are usually the Meribel and the 3 Valleys in the French Alps. I don't know what this translates to in the US, I am located in California and will be skiing in Tahoe this winter and am looking for my own set up for once.

I'm 5ft 7 and i'm fat--like, 230lbs fat. I'm mostly a trail skier but I will venture to the powder, i'd say probably a 80/20 split, or a 70/30 split at most. I'm partial to the Rossignol brand, don't ask me why, i've just liked their skis more in the past when renting (though I don't remember the specific models). I also have very very wide and fat feet, I wear a size 11 shoe and usually have a half in gap in length because the smaller shoes don't fit me width wise.

Where should i start looking? Should I buy my skis online or in a store? Should I go try on a boot? How long should I keep it on? My biggest problem in the past has been boots hurting my feet when I ski a long time.

I can parallel ski and slalom pretty well, though I've never raced or done any competitive skiing.

Thanks in advance!

Never buy boots online. Never!
In order to choose the right boots, you need to have it on your leg for at least 30 minutes. Take it on, walk aroung the shop for 30 min and then decide.
It your legs hurt, it could mean:
1. The boot is too big so your feet move.
2. Do leg exercises 1 month before the ski sezone
