K2 Outlaw not what I expected? Something new?

I bought a pair of K2 outlaw 188cm for a heliski trip in BC. I found them to be extremely unresponsive. The nose had a tendancy to want to dive so I found myself on my heels which of course tore up my quads! Feel the burn! I switched to the powder skis they offered Atomic Sugar Daddy's in a 176 and was much more comfortable although I hated the graphics. I want to find a nice set of powder skis and am considering the sugar Daddys but still want good edge grip and response on trail. I am 6' 190lbs. Thinking of the Mantra's. I typically ski on longer skis in the east like the 188 but think they may be too much for me to handle in the deep thick stuff. Any suggestions?
