Hello from Detroit MI

I love to ski and I live in the suburbs of Detroit and we have great skiing here on small hills with short runs. When I get tired of the short runs here I pack up the family in the minivan and go to Utah & Idaho for the long runs. Any tips for teaching kids to ski?

Hello and welcome, teaching family to ski is similar to teaching them to drive- everyone loses their temper! Best advice is get them in a class, kids learn better and have more fun learning with other kids. After class get them to show you what they have learned and practice with them for a while before having a snowball fight, keep it fun!
WARNING- kids learn FAST- get yourself some lessons or they will leave you behind !!!
The other thing with kids is they get hot/cold quicker than adults so be prepared to help with more/less layers as needed. Always have a spare pair of gloves/mitts, they will be miserable with wet hands and kids go through gloves like nobodys business.
Keep them hydrated or they will tire easily and get cold quicker, we tend to stop every few runs with the kids for a hot choccy and a cookie to keep their energy up, they see it as a treat and don't realise we are making them drink.
I so wish I had started skiing when I was little, have fun.

Welcome here! Just allow the kids the snow first, if they love playing it, it would be easy to teach them..
