Dawn your maybe losing something in translation here. Do you mean you want to go skiing somewhere with opportunity to explore other activities or that your looking for a first time winter holiday adventure and you don't know whether to ski, snowboard, or maybe try x-country?
If its the former then I love Are in Sweden, off the slopes you can try zip-lining, snow shoeing, toboggans, snowmobiles, moose kissing (yes really!) visit a bar/restaurant made out of a waterfall which freezes for the winter, ice skating, ice fishing and all manner of other ski related activities like early tracks, off piste, ski and spa etc etc. The region is beautiful, set in 4 main areas, mostly interlinked or easily reached by free ski bus all overlooking a lake. Plenty of easy slopes to get you started and more challenging reds and blacks if your up for it. Plenty of good eateries, not the cheapest destination by any means but probably my favourite holiday to date. We are returning for a third holiday next month.
If your not sure what to try then I'd book somewhere you can try them all for a couple of days and then choose, might be worth a couple of lessons at a snowdome or dry slope if you can reach one near you.
Hope that answers you, if not, rephrase the question and I'll try again!

2012 Vacation

Have you been to The Canyons? Vacation Quest offers affordable places nearby that area even if you are just an individual, couple, or family of skiers. I once found 3 bedrooms for just $150! Gosh it is really a great deal. Too bad I am busy doing it on another lodging place already.
