Fernie/Kicking Horse/Lake Louise/Sunshine
We're heading up to the subject area and want to know thoughts on Fernie, KH, Sunshine and L.L.....which ones would you go to, which ones to avoid. I've heard that L.L. can have a thin base at times....
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Lake Louise has great back bowls, but I fell in love with Sunshine many years ago. Havent been to Fernie, and Kicking Horse is next on my list. I have been told that Kicking Horse has alot of expert terrain. I would take a look at all their trail maps online. In this time of year the temperature should be decent at Lake Louise, it is frigid there in January. Sunshine gets dumped on, lots of snow. If you decide to go to Sunshine Lake Louise, you can stay in Banff and shuttle to Lake Louise, Sunshine Village or Norquay, three mountains to choose from.

Thanks Canadianskier! Where do you suggest staying in Banff. It would be just my wife and I and we'd be driving up from Whitefish, MT on most likely a sunday night and leaving the following Friday....
The choices are huge! Thanks again. |

Hi All,
If there is fresh snow, and you are an Expert Skiier, Kicking Horse is unbeatable. Derek |

Hey smaze, sorry I wasn't here earlier to answer. I stayed right on the main strip one year and just outside of the main village the next time. I would suggest staying anywhere along the main strip so going out for dinner and drinks is easier, as well as catching a shuttle to the mountain. Here is a website for banff, it has some hotels but I know there are many more.
